About The Position

The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to conduct skilled code enforcement and compliance work. This job/class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Requirements

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in code compliance inspections, animal control, or a closely related field.
  • Requires six months in code enforcement, animal control, or closely related experience.
  • Requires a driver's license valid in the State of Florida.
  • Requires Code Compliance Level 1 Certificate (Fundamentals of Code Enforcement) or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
  • Requires certificate of completion from a State of Florida approved Animal Control Officers course or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  • Requires certificate of completion from a State of Florida approved Animal Control Officers Chemical Immobilization of Animals course or ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive investigations
  • Interviews witnesses and enforces actionable cases violating the regulatory chapters of the Code of Ordinances.
  • Enforces all regulatory chapters of the Code of Ordinances enacted by the City Commission to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the entire community.
  • Prepares and issues various notices and other civil process in all enforcement cases.
  • Conducts educational presentations or trainings for schools and other civic organizations within the City.
  • Conducts training, evaluates work assignments, and coordinates activities and case inquiries with other departmental staff.
  • Provides sworn testimony during Special Magistrate hearings and Circuit Court civil hearings.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and records regarding activities such as case files, incident reports, photographic attachments, and civil citations.
  • Patrols City streets and parks to maintain safety from stray or dangerous animals.
  • Re-inspect current/active cases from a daily report to ensure compliance.
  • Mediates neighbor disputes regarding code violations.
  • Cleans and maintains City vehicle and animal control box.
  • Removes signs from the City rights of way.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
