A Code Enforcement officer performs inspects and investigates complaints regarding health, safety and welfare, property value and the environment of the city. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Director of Community Services. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Regular attendance with the ability to work in an occupied environment. Receives, investigates, and works to resolve violations of city and state ordinance and health violations. Patrols the city in a proactive manner to identify immediate public safety and health violations. While investigating violations, the Code Enforcement officer will attempt to contact the residence or business to resolve the violation. Issue and post door warning notices, notices of violations, corrective notices, orders to comply, and send letters to property or business owners. Schedule and perform all follow-up functions to gain compliance including letters, inspections, calls, meetings, negotiations to ensure compliance with city and state ordinances. Maintain accurate documentation for case files that investigations, inspections, and enforcement actions. Draw diagrams and illustrations, along with keeping photo documentation of violations as necessary. Prepare evidence in support of legal actions taken by the City. Appear in court, as necessary, and give testimony in municipal or district court regarding cases. Complete all duties assigned by supervisor, keep job site and work area clean, and must keep tools clean that are used in performing work. Provide backup to subordinate positions as needed. Serve on various employee or other committees. Perform other duties as assigned.
