About The Position

Supervises and participates in the activities involved in the receipt, review, and processing of building plans and application for permits, issuing of building permits and licenses, and office and clerical support services for code enforcement and permit operations; maintains the computer tracking system of all building applications including routing applications and plans to various governmental agencies, including the monitoring and hastening of reviews; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and four (4) years of specialized work experience.
  • Qualifying Specialized Work Experience: Work experience involving routing, processing or working with construction plans where reading and understanding of basic construction symbols and terminology was involved.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the activities involved in the receipt, review, and processing of building plans and applications for building permits, issuing of building permits and licenses, and the office and clerical support services of the Building Permit section
  • Issues applications for building permits
  • Maintains the computer tracking system for all building applications including routing and monitoring and hastening of past-due reviews
  • Serves as division liaison with all agencies affected by the permit tracking system
  • Provides information to applicants and the public on methods, procedures and requirements for completing, processing, and filing of applications, general requirements of building and other pertinent codes and ordinances
  • Receives and reviews applications for accuracy, completeness and compliance with general filing requirements
  • Refers complex plans and applications to appropriate members of the staff
  • Computes fees from standard fee schedules
  • Receives payments and issues permits and licenses
  • Deposits fees collected with the Department of Finance
  • Maintains cash journal of permits issued, fees collected and fees deposited
  • Compiles data and prepares statistical reports covering number and kinds of permits issued, valuation of construction, fees collected, and other information as needed
  • Performs other related duties as required
