About The Position

Westport Freudigman & Billings seeks a highly organized and tech-savvy team member to join our College Advising team, which supports students in navigating the college admissions process. This role is ideal for individuals with a demonstrated interest or background in college advising, counseling, or educational access. You will have the opportunity to work directly with our co-founder, Kim Freudigman. Our philosophy is simple: we believe that exceptional college advising requires, at its heart, a synergistic, mutually responsive relationship between the counselor, student, and family. Embracing this core belief, we facilitate a student-centered, holistic advising process that takes into careful consideration the student’s strengths and goals. Kim holds membership with the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC), the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), and the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA).

Requirements

  • Is Highly Organized & Detail-Oriented: Must manage thousands of data points regarding students, schools, names, and deadlines with accuracy.
  • Is Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in Mac computers, Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, and web-based applications is essential.
  • Thrives in a Fast-Paced Environment: Ability to pivot quickly, multitask, and execute tasks efficiently under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Is a Strong Communicator & Problem-Solver: Must be comfortable asking questions, taking initiative, and working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required; candidates with a background in college counseling, education, or student services are strongly preferred.
  • Work Authorization: Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States.
  • Monday to Friday, mandatory onsite (typically 10am to 6:30pm).
  • Some nights and weekends preceding major college deadlines
  • Sometimes more than 40 hours per week during busy seasons

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: Prior experience in college advising, educational access programs, or student support services is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Student and Family Support: Under the guidance and direction the Director of College Advising and the Assistant Director of College Advising, liaise with students and families to answer questions/provide guidance and direction.
  • College Research: Develop a working understanding of colleges and universities to which the cohort is applying and identify opportunities; gain familiarity with majors, extracurricular offerings, and co-curricular offerings (e.g. internship opportunities) at these institutions.
  • College Advising Support: Assist in the logistics of organizing and tracking students’ application progress, deadlines, and required materials.
  • Data Management: Enter and maintain large-scale student and school data in spreadsheets and other web-based applications.
  • Social Media & Student Portfolios: Assist in developing and executing social strategies across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and ZeeMee, ensuring content aligns with college admissions best practices.
  • Administrative Support: Provide essential assistance to the Director of College Advising in managing college application workflows and information tracking. Construct and manage digital forms for student and parent use.
