A College Success Advisor for students that is currently or previously in foster care. The main responsibility will be to provide support and guidance to help them navigate the challenges of transitioning to independent living while pursuing their academic goals. This includes assisting with academic planning, career exploration, and helping students

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in psychology, sociology, or social work
  • Two years of experience working with youth in the child welfare system.
  • Knowledge of navigating higher education systems and application processes.
  • Ability to work virtually and in person.
  • Strong communication skills and listening skills.
  • Time management skills & Prioritizing task
  • Problem solving and adaptability to meet evolving student needs.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution

Responsibilities

  • Host weekly individual coaching sessions with each student on the caseload. This includes hybrid sessions, which you are required to host sessions virtual and in person. All sessions are required documentations.
  • Collaboration/Communication, which includes outreach to students, foster care agencies, stakeholders and other staff.
  • Preparations for college success coach sessions. Creating individualized session plans that are culturally competent and socio emotional rigorous. Reviewing resources and supports. Conducting Case reviews with team members and supervisors.
  • Attend professional development, including individual coaching, group coaching, and departmental meetings. Attend additional trainings from HR, ACS and partner organizations.
  • Admin Time: Maintaining accurate and detailed session notes for all client interactions in program database. Communicate effectively with partner agencies and stakeholders to address inquiries and provide information.
  • Coordinate Extra services and events for students in college with a history of foster care. Evaluate the effectiveness of events and activities and make recommendations for improvement. Serve as a resource for students seeking support and guidance on college-related issues.
  • Overseeing Student Support Services: Collaborate with community organizations, agencies, providers, to provide additional support for students in foster care. Advocate for the unique needs of students in foster care within the college community. Develop and implement programs to address the specific challenges faced by students.
  • College Resource Support: Assisting students with college related applications, such as scholarship programs, federal and state funding, helping students transfer colleges, and reviewing housing options.
