Responsible for the inspection of new and existing construction for compliance with adopted building codes and local ordinances to establish that requirements for life, health, safety and welfare of building occupants and the general public are met. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform combination inspections, primarily building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical. Perform inspections of new and existing residential, commercial, multi-family projects and all associated structures while under construction to ensure compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. Perform inspections of existing buildings to verify compliance with requirements for Certificates of Occupancy. Reviews inspection requests and determines daily inspection assignments for all inspectors. Review third party inspection and engineering reports/documents for compliance with approved plans and adopted codes. Use computerized permit tracking system to research and view building permit records and to obtain daily inspection schedules, create inspection routes, and accurately enter inspection results Provide computerized and/or written inspection results to customers. Respond to concerns and inquiries from citizens, contractors, builders, engineers, and other entities on all aspects of building inspection procedures, department policies, and the adopted building codes and local ordinances. Translate and communicate technical requirements to customers of varying technical knowledge/ability. Mentor/train other Combination Inspectors in areas of licensing/expertise/certification. Participates in code adoption process providing input and reviewing draft ordinances for accuracy and consistency with inspection procedures. Updates inspection procedures as needed and notifies/trains customers upon code and ordinance changes. Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential. May act as the Assistant Building Official in their absence. May perform occasional after hours/call-in inspections. Other duties as assigned.
