Austin Industrial is currently seeking a Combination Welder (Combo Welder) at our Bayport Polymers location in Pasadena, TX . The ideal candidate will have Journeyman-level welding experience , including proficiency with Stick, Heliarc (TIG), Arc welding, and stainless steel.

Requirements

  • Ability to work at heights, on scaffolding, in JLGs, confined spaces, and shop environments
  • Ability to build fire boxes for 100% spark containment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must follow all Austin Industrial and plant policies & procedures
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience as a Combo Welder, experience with Stick, Hela, Arc and stainless steel.
  • Certifications/ Licenses: Weld Test required
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Meet physical demands as listed above

Responsibilities

  • Welds or tack‑welds components using spot welding guns or electric/gas welding equipment.
  • Connect torch lines to oxygen and fuel gas tanks and adjust gas flow to achieve desired flame temperature, size, and color.
  • Preheat materials using a torch for welding or bending.
  • Fills holes, repairs defects, and shapes metal by thinning, curving, or building up surfaces.
  • Inspects and measures workpieces using straightedges, templates, or other tools to ensure specifications are met.
  • Climb ladders or scaffolding to access elevated work areas.
  • Communicate with crane operators to position heavy materials.
  • Operates flame‑cutting or plasma‑arc equipment for dismantling or cutting metal.
  • Uses hoists, cranes, banding tools, and hand tools to position and secure materials.
  • Selects proper weld locations considering metal type, thickness, and temperature requirements.
  • Apply heat using flame or electrodes to straighten, curve, or form metal.
  • Joins components, reinforces weak points, and adds metal as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
