Inside the Role The Commercial Credit Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and managing commercial credit applications across Dealer, Fleet, and Small Business customer segments within the United States and Canada. This role supports Daimler Truck Financial Services by assessing creditworthiness, managing credit risk, reviewing financial information, and ensuring adherence to DTFS credit policies. The Underwriter partners closely with Sales, Dealer personnel, Legal, Remarketing, and internal credit teams to support profitable portfolio growth, maintain strong customer and dealer relationships, and ensure high-quality underwriting standards. What You Drive at DTFS: Credit Analysis & Underwriting Underwrite commercial credit applications for dealer, fleet, workout or small business borrowers with transaction volumes ranging from single vehicle up to >$1million lines of credit. Communicate credit decisions or negotiate alternate structures to dealers, applicants or internal sales team. Analyze and evaluate supplied application and financial information, assess cashflow, repayment capability, borrower performance trends, and collateral risk. Identify concerns and recommend risk mitigating solutions or structures. Oversee a portfolio of commercial accounts, performing periodic reviews for compliance and risk classification based on defined frequency or changes to risk indicators. Prepare and present well‑reasoned credit recommendations to senior approving authorities when outside delegated limits. Evaluate available collateral, guarantees, and legal documentation requirements, as well as priority agreements to ensure collateral perfection and compliance. Collaboration & Process Improvement Build strong working relationships with assigned clients, dealers or internal stakeholders. Provide courteous, consultative and timely service and support. Participate in joint dealer or customer visits as needed. Contribute to departmental projects, process improvements, and cross-functional initiatives to drive efficiency, improve risk performance/return or underwriting quality and consistency. Knowledge You Should Bring: BS/BA degree preferred; OR 6 years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Minimum 2 years of general business experience, thereof at least 1 year in credit underwriting, commercial lending, restructuring, financial analysis, or related field. Ability to analyze financial statements, identify trends, and make sound credit decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook; strong analytical abilities). Ability to integrate information from multiple sources and evaluate statistical or financial data. Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and organizational skills. Exceptional Candidates Might Have: 2+ years of commercial credit underwriting in fleet, dealer, or collateral‑based lending environments. Experience in accounting, dealership operations, automotive/trucking industry finance, floorplan/wholesale credit or commercial restructuring. Understanding of secured lending concepts, including UCC/PPSA rules, priority agreements, and related legal documentation. Experience with collections, underwriting, portfolio, and scoring or rating systems (ALFA, PEGA, Credit Lens) or similar credit platforms. Background in mentoring, coaching, or leading junior staff.
