About The Position

The Commercial HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems for our commercial customers. This role ensures all systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably while providing exceptional service to customers. The technician is accountable for performing preventive maintenance, handling emergency service calls, accurately documenting work, and adhering to all safety, code, and company standards. Success in this position requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, dependable HVAC solutions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • Familiarity with building codes, HVAC equipment manufacturers, and industry standards
  • Experience with chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and VAV systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Understanding of brazing, soldering, vacuum pulls, leak detection, and electrical diagnostics
  • Valid driver’s license and meet company’s MVR standards

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification (preferred)
  • Certifications such as NATE, RSES, or OEM trainings (Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Daikin) (a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues on commercial systems including RTUs, split systems, heat pumps, VRF/VRV systems, air handlers, and exhaust systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair components such as compressors, motors, fans, TXVs, belts, bearings, contactors, sensors, and control boards.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools (meters, gauges, leak detectors, combustion analyzers) to pinpoint system failures.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC equipment, including filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, belt replacement, and refrigerant checks.
  • Document equipment condition and recommend corrective action to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Service and repair walk-ins, reach-ins, ice machines, and refrigeration systems.
  • Identify leaks, recover/recharge refrigerants, and ensure compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Work with DDC and BAS systems (e.g., Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell) to adjust setpoints, troubleshoot alarms, and verify control sequences.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Complete digital service tickets with accurate notes, parts used, and labor hours.
  • Communicate findings and recommended repairs to customers clearly and professionally.
  • Provide exceptional service to build strong customer relationships.
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in clean, safe working condition.
  • Ensure all refrigerant handling complies with EPA 608 regulations.
