About The Position

The Commercial Loan Assistant provides administrative, analytical, and operational support to the Asset Management team throughout the lifecycle of commercial loans. This role supports accurate loan monitoring, timely reporting, and effective communication with borrowers and internal stakeholders. It is an essential position contributing to the efficient management of the commercial loan portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Construction, Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in commercial lending, loan administration, real estate finance, or asset management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building abilities.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and high‑volume workloads.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial loan documentation or construction lending is considered an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills (macros, VBA) considered an asset.
  • Interest in expanding knowledge of commercial real estate, construction financing, and lending.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret loan documentation to ensure accuracy of reporting, collections, and borrower representations.
  • Monitor borrower compliance with loan terms, covenants, milestones, payment schedules, and reporting requirements.
  • Escalate deviations from loan documents or business plans to the Manager, Asset Management.
  • Conduct proactive loan surveillance throughout the loan lifecycle.
  • Report on asset‑level performance relative to loan documents, collateral, and borrower business plans.
  • Upload updates, reporting, and analysis into the Asset Management database accurately and on schedule.
  • Perform data integrity checks and stress testing of the Asset Management database.
  • Review borrower draw requests and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with retained project monitors and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing recommendations for construction or development loan advances in accordance with loan agreements and internal policies.
  • Request reporting packages, financial updates, and project information from borrowers.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support timely resolution of borrower inquiries and documentation needs.
  • Assist in preparing memos, presentations, data sets, and investor reporting.
  • Support the Manager, Asset Management with ad hoc projects and portfolio initiatives.
  • Maintain organized and complete loan files in accordance with company standards.
