Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two years of experience in reviewing, verifying, and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, verifies and interprets information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of adult inmate prison sentences in accordance with State laws and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
  • In accordance with applicable laws, regulation, policies and procedure, reviews sentencing and release orders, accurately computes inmate terms, diminution credits and release dates.
  • Accurately records calculations, credits and release dates within the commitment and diminution records.
  • Reviews and verifies for accuracy calculations of inmate terms, credits and release dates.
  • In accordance with applicable laws, regulation, policies and procedure, accurately computes and/or verifies the accuracy of calculations of inmate terms, diminution credits and release dates adjusted for time spent on escape, parole, mandatory supervision or court ordered releases.
  • Assigns, reviews, approves the work of and trains lower-level Commitment Records Specialists.
  • Monitors work assigned to specialists, ensures work is completed within required timeframes and reports work progress to the supervisor.
  • Develops and provides technical training to improve commitment records specialists’ skill level.
