About The Position

The Communications & Public Affairs Specialist serves as the strategic right hand to the Vice President of Engagement & Strategic Initiatives. This well-rounded communications professional is a strong writer, skilled storyteller, and media-savvy strategist who understands how to elevate brand, mission, and impact across digital, public, and internal platforms. This role blends strategic communications, marketing, public affairs, and employee engagement. The Specialist plays a critical role in shaping both external perception and internal culture across all five JPAFHC locations.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of professional communications or public affairs experience.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong understanding of media relations, digital strategy, and brand management.
  • Experience managing digital signage systems and print communications logistics preferred.
  • Skilled in social media management, content creation, photography, and video production.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Strategic thinker with strong judgment and the ability to operate in high-visibility environments.
  • Creative, proactive, and confident making decisions, and driving initiative forward with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage integrated internal and external communications across all five JPAFHC sites, ensuring alignment, clarity, and brand consistency.
  • Draft high-level press releases, media advisories, op-eds, executive statements, and strategic messaging on behalf of senior leadership.
  • Develop compelling talking points and remarks for the senior leadership.
  • Support and advance public affairs initiatives aligned with community health advocacy and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate and manage media inquiries, cultivate coverage opportunities, and maintain strong media relationships.
  • Ensure proactive communication strategies that position JPAFHC as a trusted voice in community health
  • Manage digital screen content across sites, including development, scheduling, monitoring, and updates.
  • Oversee print signage, posters, elevator frames, banners, and wayfinding materials to ensure accuracy and brand alignment.
  • Conduct regular site rounding to audit communications materials and ensure timely updates and quality control.
  • Coordinate logistics related to installation, maintenance, and updates of digital and print communications assets.
  • Strengthen organizational culture through intentional, transparent, and mission-driven communication.
  • Manage and enhance JPAFHC’s social media presence, including campaign development, graphic design, photography, and video storytelling.
  • Support marketing campaigns and community engagement initiatives.
