Careers that Change Lives As a key member of the Medtronic Foundation team, you will be a strategic communications partner and leader—developing and executing integrated communications strategies that enhance and amplify the Foundation’s vision, strategy, and impact with a diverse range of global internal and external stakeholders. In addition to the Medtronic Foundation’s focus areas of employee engagement, match giving, volunteerism activities, and disaster response, the Medtronic Foundation recently launched Medtronic Spark, a global, 10-year initiative which empowers students from low-income households to achieve their dreams in health tech and related fields. This requires a strong communications lead that will launch communications regarding the purpose and progress of Medtronic Spark, develop strategies to leverage and engage our global employees, activate external stakeholders to join the initiative in proactive and meaningful ways, and build brand equity for Medtronic PLC. In this role, you will navigate complexity across multiple workstreams and internal stakeholders across our global organization, connecting communications strategies with the through-line of employee engagement, while developing creative and engaging ways to reach external stakeholders with targeted messaging. Your strategic, data-informed plans and approach to communications will enable the Medtronic Foundation to further elevate the Medtronic brand and reputation as a trusted, forward-thinking corporate citizen. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10 years of progressive corporate or agency communications experience with 7 years of people or program managerial experience; or advanced degree and 8 years of related experience and of with 7+ years of people or program managerial experience

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in communications, public relations, journalism, scientific communications or marketing
  • Experience in and passion for strategic communications – ability to connect the dots across distinct projects and be seen as both strategic advisor and excellent doer
  • Proven ability to navigate and work effectively across a global matrixed organization to ensure both global consistency of strategy and messaging and unique local market requirements
  • Strong business acumen; background in health tech, healthcare or philanthropic organizations preferred
  • Ability to thrive under tight deadlines and multi-task while quickly prioritizing projects and communicating priorities to stakeholders
  • Proven track record developing and executing integrated communications strategies for internal and external audiences
  • Ability to achieve results through teams, exerting influence across various levels across the organization.
  • People & project management skills and ability to effectively prioritize

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all communications are anchored in a strategic plan built on objectives, strategies, tactics and audiences, and informed by data and ongoing measurement.
  • Leveraging data and metrics, provide critical insights on the impact of communications on the stated goals, and adjust or modify based on these insights.
  • Position Medtronic Foundation as a recognized leader in creating long-term strategic investments that prioritize transformative programming to improve people’s lives.
  • Elevate the Medtronic brand, reputation and positive net sentiment through storytelling, audience engagement and earned media coverage about Medtronic Foundation’s strategic investments and initiatives that strengthen communities where Medtronic employees live and work.
  • Provide enterprise-wide communications that inspire Medtronic employees to engage and actively participate in opportunities to positively impact their communities through the support of the Foundation.
  • Through close partnership and collaboration with the Program leaders, ensure appropriate strategies are in place to amplify the impact of the work of the Foundation.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to communications team members as appropriate to deliver on the integrated communications strategy.
  • Engage across internal and external stakeholders to ensure a global approach and resonance with a global audience as appropriate through proactively understanding local needs, nuances of the culture and developing a locally relevant communication approach.
  • Serve as a connection to the Global Communications and Corporate Marketing (GCCM) team to ensure opportunities are identified and implemented and that the Foundation communications strategy aligns to GCCM priority audiences as appropriate.
  • Identify strategic opportunities for executive communications and thought leadership opportunities for the President of the Medtronic Foundation, in partnership with Global Communications and Corporate Marketing partners (speaking opportunities, media, etc.).
  • Lead the strategy for social content channels and partner with the Sr. Communications Specialist, Medtronic Foundation to implement the strategy.
  • Manage the communication resources within the Foundation to provide guidance, coaching and feedback for the execution of the strategy and to develop team members for the future.
  • Manage external agencies to enhance and augment communications to ensure creative, bold, and relevant messaging that engages key audiences.
  • Ability to develop and present C-suite and Board level materials and effectively speak to the work and influence alignment and decision making at the board of directors’ meetings.
