Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship, or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, gerontology, political science, policy, or related fields
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, including age, race, and sexual orientation
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with end-to-end video production, including planning, shooting video, editing, and file delivery for appropriate platforms
  • AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help support state priority areas, including fraud prevention, health & wellness, and Social Security
  • Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate on communications tactics, and engage in a support role for various remote and in-person events
  • Enhance event participation by assisting with event marketing and promotion through social media and other platforms to tell the story about AARP Tennessee’s work
  • Assist with building communications campaigns, drafting press releases, event promotion, social media presence, and other materials for internal and external channels
  • Assist in planning, scripting, production, and editing video projects and online content
  • Engage in strategic communications outreach to internal and external audiences, including media relations
  • Design event/program fliers, graphics, and other material
  • Work with AARP volunteers and community partners to amplify storytelling initiatives
