Legence is seeking a strategic, hands‑on Communications Manager to lead the development and delivery of our external and internal communications strategy. This role contributes to the execution of Legence brand reputation, storytelling, media relations, crisis response, executive visibility, and enterprise-wide employee communication. This role will guide a PR firm and directly manage the Communications Specialist, ensuring an aligned, consistent, and compelling narrative for all audiences, including but not limited to employees, candidates, media, investors, and the broader market. The position is ideal for a proven communications leader who brings both strategic vision and exceptional execution rigor. The Communications Manager must be equally comfortable developing high-impact strategies and rolling up their sleeves to deliver compelling, high-quality work in a fast-moving environment. Success in this role requires strong strategic thinking, exceptional storytelling, and an ability to build trust and alignment across a complex, multi‑business-unit organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in communications, PR, media relations, or strategic storytelling, with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Experience executing external communications and collaborating with PR firms, and earned media programs.
  • Strong experience developing integrated communications strategies for complex or multi-location organizations.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and message development skills across formats and audiences.
  • Experience preparing executives for media interviews, speaking engagements, and high‑visibility opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive, confidential, or high-stakes communications with sound judgment.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead multiple initiatives under tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy aligned with Legence’s business priorities, culture, and market positioning.
  • Maintain messaging consistency and tone across for all external and internal communications.
  • Identify reputational risks, lead horizon scanning, and maintain a proactive crisis communications response plan.
  • Ensure clarity, consistency, and cohesion across all channels and audience groups.
  • Manage Legence’s external communications strategy—including PR, earned media, thought leadership, and corporate positioning.
  • Coordinate external PR and communications firms, ensuring quality of deliverables and alignment with messaging priorities.
  • Effectively support the VP of Investor Relations to ensure alignment on communications that touch investor‑relevant topics, influencing the broader external communications marketplace.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier media, reporters, analysts, and industry influencers.
  • Lead the development, placement, and tracking of media content (e.g., press releases, op-eds, interviews, podcasts, videos, and industry commentary).
  • Prepare senior leaders and subject matter experts with briefing documents, talking points, scripts, and message guidance.
  • Coordinate responses to media inquiries and oversee issues response and reactive communications.
  • Oversee the execution of enterprise-wide internal communications, while delegating appropriately to the Communications Specialist.
  • Support the internal narrative – mission, vision, values, progress updates, and cultural moments.
  • Partner with human resources and business unit leadership to support initiatives with strong communication elements (e.g., employee retention and attraction, wellbeing, culture, organizational change, and sustainability).
  • Develop the cadence for All Hands meetings, Town Halls, leadership messages, and organizational updates.
  • Create feedback loops that measure employee sentiment and guide continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for Legence’s executives and leaders to participate in high-impact events, speaking engagements, and guest commentary.
  • Develop executive thought leadership content including speeches, op-eds, blog posts, LinkedIn content, podcasts, and presentation materials.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure message alignment across internal, external, and industry channels.
  • Coordinate content development of all communications materials, including press releases, speeches, blog posts, reports, newsletters, and leadership messaging.
  • Review and edit content; serve as final editorial gatekeeper for tone, accuracy, and brand alignment, in a fast-moving environment.
  • Oversee production of board‑facing communications and guide creative, design, and multimedia storytelling in partnership with internal creative resources.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to strengthen and activate Legence’s employer brand and candidate value proposition.
  • Oversee alignment across career site messaging, recruitment campaigns, social storytelling, and candidate engagement.
  • Support the Communications Specialist in creating employee stories and culture content reflective of Legence’s workplace experience.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Communications Specialist and other project-aligned resources.
  • Manage relationships with communication agency partners and consultants.
  • Oversee communications budget, measurement dashboards, reporting, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Lead through influence to effectively guide cross‑functional marketing contributors outside the direct reporting structure.
