About The Position

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish. Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy. The Community Ambassador (CA) role is designed to build capacity within World Relief, within refugee and immigrant communities, and within the wider Spokane community to promote the integration and empowerment of newcomers. This position will primarily support African communities, ensuring they have information about and access to community resources and services provided through World Relief. Common languages in this region include Swahili, Somali, Oromo, Amharic, Tigrinya, Kinyarwanda, and Kirundi. This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week. This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability.

Requirements

  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills (email, internet navigation, Microsoft Office, data entry)
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to support community programming and outreach activities
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • Fluency in at least one of these languages: Swahili, Somali, Oromo, Amharic, Tigrinya, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience preferred
  • Previous experience working with refugees
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Self-starter; able to work independently or collaboratively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in multicultural settings and across language barriers

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular outreach to community members, including follow-up on needs and referrals
  • Collaborate with the Ambassador team and other departments on designing programs and activities for African communities
  • Assist clients with applications and navigation for accessing community resources
  • Provide regular updates to the ambassador team on new or changing resources in the community
  • Promote World Relief and other community events to African communities
  • Tailor and participate in group-based educational or community-building activities (virtual or in-person)
  • Support outreach for Education Center workshops and classes to ensure strong participation from African clients
  • Document and record plans, activities, outcomes, and follow-up steps
  • Attend regular meetings and check-ins with the ambassador team and other World Relief teams
  • Provide interpretation for newcomers participating in programs and services
  • Other duties as assigned
