About The Position

Division: Special Works Reports to: Community Center Manager Work Location: Downtown Oakland Campus Hours: Part Time, Regular Tuesday-Saturday 8:00am-3:30pm Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly Salary Range: $21.83- $23.83 Supervises: n/a DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the primary front desk presence, welcoming guests, volunteers, and visitors in a respectful, informed, and professional manner. Register guests for SVdP programs, events, and services. Utilize the SVdP internal database to maintain accurate records of guest services. Assists Community Center Manager and Woman’s Center Coordinator as directed. Demonstrates familiarity with all processes and procedures of the Community Center, Women’s Center, Men’s Center, Donation Gaylords, and Clothing Closet. Perform intake interviews to assess individual guest needs and determine appropriate services, resources, and referrals. Stamp, sort, and distribute guest mail in accordance with established procedures and guest service guidelines. Ensure fair, safe, and balanced use of Community Center and Women’s Center facilities. Assists Coordinator to track and enter metrics daily and report them monthly. Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Community Center. Assist in the implementation of volunteer- and client-friendly programming and activities in drop-in centers. Facilitate community center activities such as bingo, arts and crafts, and any other scheduled activities. Engage, train, support, and build positive working relationships with volunteers. Guides guests to SVdP programs and resources that meet their needs. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of SVdP.   • Excellent time and priority management skills. Ability to successfully manage projects from conception to completion. Ability to prioritize projects, work independently, meet deadlines, manage several projects simultaneously and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to understand the financial impact of decisions, actions, and outcomes.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to create and follow outlines, timelines, and reports, and to hold others accountable for completion of tasks.
  • Supervisory or management experience.
  • Good analytic skills and ability to make evidence-based decisions.
  • Requires ability to stand to 3-7 hours per day with frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing. Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height up to 6 feet and 11-25 pounds to a height of 3 feet. Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 30 pounds for distances up to 25 feet.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people in various environments, including those that are homeless, addressing substance abuse issues and other barriers to employment, people from diverse ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds, the undocumented, and people with disabilities including HIV/AIDS.
