About The Position

Laurel House is dedicated to empowering individuals, fostering safety, and advocating for those affected by domestic violence. Through education, prevention, and support, we strive to create a community where everyone can live free from abuse. The Community Educator helps raise community awareness about domestic violence, adolescent relationship abuse and other domestic violence related topics by providing age-appropriate information to schools and colleges, faith-based communities, youth groups, and other community groups. This position engages in prevention programming in order to reduce the incidence and prevalence of intimate partner violence within various sectors of the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, psychology, public health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • comfortable with public speaking
  • Must have valid driver's license and auto insurance
  • Ability to travel frequently to presentation sites throughout Montgomery County
  • Experience in public speaking, teaching, or facilitating workshops.
  • Strong understanding of domestic violence dynamics, prevention strategies, and community resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations and foster inclusive, respectful environments.
  • Proficiency in using technology to create and present educational materials.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Laurel House.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or in a related field.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison for Montgomery County schools, colleges, youth and young adult groups seeking domestic violence and teen dating violence presentations, outreach activities and materials
  • Develop and deliver educational presentations, workshops, and training sessions on domestic violence prevention and awareness.
  • Create and distribute educational materials tailored to various audiences, including youth, adults, and professionals.
  • Act as a resource for individuals and organizations seeking information about domestic violence prevention.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of education programs and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Stay informed about the latest research, policies, and best practices in domestic violence prevention.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and outreach initiatives.
