Job Description: Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Community Outreach & Education Coordinate educational programs for schools, community groups, and civic organizations. Plan and attend adoption events, off-site outreach, and fundraising activities. Build partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to increase public involvement, awareness and corporate donations. Assists in identifying animals from the shelter suitable for placement and transport to other animal welfare organizations. Assists in organizing transport of animals to partner organizations. Represent the shelter in public speaking engagements, community meetings, and media opportunities. Work closely with the community to both reunite lost animals as well as match animals to adopters, fosters, or rescues, building a strong relationship to find homes for animals. Contact and engage respective partners of animals on the “high risk” euthanasia list if the animal meets established criteria. Recruit, engage, select, train and work closely with volunteers as it relates to community events such adoption events. Public Relations & Marketing Support Assist with social media content, newsletters, and marketing campaigns highlighting shelter programs, adoptable animals, and volunteer opportunities. Develop creative outreach initiatives to increase adoptions, foster care placements, and public support. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, outreach events, and community engagement efforts. Assist with grant research, applications, and reporting when related to outreach and volunteer programs. Work with Chain of Command to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements. Communicates with shelter staff regarding any medical requirements, health certificates, and identification paperwork required for animals going to other animal welfare organizations Perform tasks while maintaining professional, tact and excellent customer service. Performs related work as required. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent and one year experience in general clerical or animal related positions or closely related experience. Prior experience coordinating events, community programs, or public outreach strongly preferred. Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Proficiency in computer operation, Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, for special events. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have reliable transportation. Comfortable working in an animal shelter environment with potential exposure to animals of varying temperaments, allergens, and cleaning supplies. Ability to exercise good judgement when dealing with the public, volunteers, animal-related concerns, and confidential information. Ability to have a compassionate attitude and sense of urgency in getting animals safe and cared for. Ability to communicate courteously and diplomatically; manage multiple tasks, programs, and events. Special Certifications and Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language. Physical Demands: Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. Lift up to 40 lbs. with and without assistance. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
