About The Position

Based in Los Angeles, BD&J is California’s leading personal injury law firm, having recovered over $2 billion for our clients. We are currently seeking an experienced Compliance Attorney to join our legal team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an attorney with a strong understanding of statutes of limitations, legal deadlines, and case filing requirements in personal injury law. The Compliance Attorney will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all legal deadlines, overseeing the accurate filing of cases, and advising the legal team on statute-related matters. This is a full-time, onsite position at our Los Angeles headquarters.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active license to practice law in California
  • 1+ years of experience in personal injury law or a related legal field
  • Strong understanding of statutes of limitations, legal deadlines, and case filing requirements
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex legal statutes
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Research and interpret statutes of limitations, tolling provisions, and other time-sensitive legal requirements related to personal injury cases.
  • Review initial case files to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, filing deadlines, and applicable statutes of limitations.
  • Maintain and assist in updating a master list of statutes of limitations and key deadlines for active cases, collaborating with the legal team to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in developing strategies to manage and mitigate risks related to statutes of limitations and filing deadlines.
  • Assist in preparing and filing administrative government claims in compliance with the California Government Claims Act and Federal Tort Claims.
  • Review personal injury cases involving public entities (e.g., city buses, government vehicles, unsafe sidewalks, or public premises). This includes conducting early case reviews alongside the Statutes team to identify potential issues at the outset of a case, as well as reviewing matters after the Pre-Litigation attorney has made an initial determination.
  • Monitor and manage case progression from claim filing through litigation and resolution to ensure all statute-related deadlines are met.
  • Evaluate potential government liability, analyze applicable immunities, and assist in determining legal strategy in coordination with Pre-Litigation attorneys.
  • Review, approve, and sign government claims as required.
  • Collaborate closely with internal case managers, paralegals, attorneys, and other legal team members to ensure compliance and timely case progression.
