About The Position

The Compliance Manager oversees the development, implementation and maintenance of the organization’s compliance and risk management plans and programs. Ensures the organization’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations and standards. Serves as the organization’s Compliance Officer, overseeing the corporate compliance program, functioning as an independent and objective resource that reviews and evaluates compliance concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Law, Business or other related field
  • At least three (3) years of experience in healthcare compliance, risk management or legal/audit functions
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory changes and apply them to daily operations
  • High integrity with the ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with discretion
  • Working knowledge of healthcare specific regulatory requirements related to compliance and risk management
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and monitors the design and implementation of the organization’s compliance program, including taking appropriate steps to improve and ensure its effectiveness at preventing and/or detecting violations of law, regulations, policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Develops and enforces policies to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies, including CMS, HIPAA and OIG guidelines.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.
  • Develops and monitors corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues working with department leadership.
  • Participates on the Compliance/Audit Committee of the Hospital Board of Directors.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis to ensure that the Compliance/Audit Committee and Executive Leadership are aware of compliance efforts.
  • Serves as the chair of the internal Compliance and Risk Committee.
  • Oversees and monitors the risk and risk mitigation functions, including the design and implementation of the risk management program and plan.
  • In collaboration with other organization leaders, conducts comprehensive risk assessments to identify organizational risks.
  • Coordinates REHAB’s response to all potential legal actions.
  • Assures the timely evaluation and resolution of all grievances (excluding employment grievances).
  • Monitors the event reporting system and works in collaboration with the Quality department in leading root cause analyses and coordinating investigations into potential misconduct or adverse events, when indicated.
  • Designs and delivers mandatory compliance training for all staff, providers and leadership.
  • Consults with external legal counsel and/or insurance carrier(s) on potential claims or compliance matters.
  • Uses sound judgment and ensures patient safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the hiring, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and development of employees.
  • Ensures the employees are trained appropriately and maintains adequate level of competency to perform job duties; develops personnel to meet future requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improving processes.
  • Develops and ensures the development of performance standards for areas of responsibility, monitors, reviews and evaluates performance for quality assurance; provides feedback to staff and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Responsible for the creation, implementation, and ensuring adherence to appropriate policies and procedures for departments and the hospital.
  • Optimizes resources responsibly to ensure operations and staffing runs smoothly.
  • Encourages openness, provides a safe and positive environment within departments.
  • Creates a safe work environment that fosters respect and positive morale.
  • Works closely with Leadership to ensure a cohesive work environment.
  • Fosters two way communication with employees and shares information from Leadership meetings.
  • In cooperation with Executive Leadership, develops and implements performance measurement indicators, benchmarks and goals linked to the strategic plan of the hospital through various activities of the service lines, programs, and quality improvement efforts of the department.
  • Accepts responsibility for decisions and effective communication.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with external and internal customers to include patients, physicians, other managers and employees, surveyors, contractors and vendors.
  • Participates on hospital committees when requested.
  • Prepares the department(s) assigned budgets.
  • Maintains a fiscal responsibility to oversee assigned cost centers, monitors and tracks expenditures and provides explanations for variances.
  • Comprehends the department's budget and presents key metrics.
  • Serves as the central resource for the development and implementation of strategies which are efficient, effective, timely, patient-centered, medically appropriate for an acute rehabilitation level of care, and supports appropriate financial reimbursement.
