OpenAISan Francisco, CA

About The Position

The Compliance Program Manager will play a key role in building and scaling OpenAI’s compliance program—translating requirements into practical processes, driving program execution, and improving how we detect, assess, and mitigate compliance risk. You’ll help run the day-to-day operational backbone of the program (e.g., disclosures, training, investigations tracking, controls, and reporting) and partner cross-functionally to keep the program effective as the company grows. This role represents an exciting opportunity to innovate compliance operations using the latest AI technology. This role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in compliance, risk, audit, investigations ops, or program management in a regulated and/or fast-scaling environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building and running programs (process design, stakeholder management, project plans, metrics, continuous improvement).
  • Demonstrated ability using AI to improve compliance processes, or demonstrated skill in technical innovation.
  • Strong execution: you can plan the work and work the plan, with good judgment about prioritization in ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write and speak in plain English (not “compliance speak”).
  • Comfort partnering across teams (Legal, Security, People, Finance, Eng/Operations) and navigating competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail without losing the big picture.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple work streams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in technology (and ideally AI) is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Audit Committee or senior leadership reporting.
  • Familiarity with common compliance program elements (training, disclosures, investigations, third-party risk, policies/controls, audit readiness).
  • Certifications such as CCEP/CCEP-I (or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Build and scale compliance program operations: design and implement repeatable workflows (intake, triage, escalation, documentation, follow-up), and continuously improve them as risks and business needs evolve.
  • Own program execution: create project plans, define milestones, drive cross-functional action items, and ensure initiatives land on time (policy rollouts, training launches, controls implementation, tooling improvements).
  • Support disclosures and investigations processes: help manage intake and tracking, coordinate with stakeholders, maintain documentation, and ensure timely resolution and remediation follow-through.
  • Drive compliance training and communications: help develop, launch, and measure training and awareness programs that are clear, practical, and aligned to risk.
  • Monitor and assess compliance risk: partner with internal stakeholders to identify gaps, conduct internal assessments, recommend corrective actions, and track remediation.
  • Support audit and regulatory readiness: assist with responses to inquiries, audits, and examinations; maintain evidence, reporting decks, and program artifacts.
  • Develop metrics and reporting: build dashboards and recurring reporting for leadership (and the Audit Committee as needed) on risk areas, program health, and key initiatives.
  • Stay current on evolving requirements: track relevant regulatory developments and best practices; translate them into actionable program updates.
  • For all of the above, we expect you to leverage our products, including ChatGPT and agentic workflows to reduce workload, improve results, and upgrade the user experience.
