The Component Engineer is responsible for managing electronic component data and lifecycle activities after engineering design release. This role serves as the technical bridge between Supply Chain, Engineering, Production, and ERP/Configuration Management. The Component Engineer ensures component availability, system data accuracy, compliance, manufacturability, and smooth transition of designs into production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or related field.
  • 3–7+ years experience with electronic components (active, passive, electromechanical).
  • Experience supporting sourcing or quotation activity for new components (electronic, mechanical, or electromechanical).
  • Working knowledge of Oracle ERP (or similar ERP) for item master, BOM management, and configuration control.
  • Ability to interpret datasheets, schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working across multiple functional groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Oracle E‑Business Suite or Oracle Cloud SCM.
  • Familiarity with lifecycle management tools (SiliconExpert, IHS, Z2Data).
  • Experience with supplier quality, procurement engineering, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience evaluating supplier quotations or supporting sourcing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the Approved Manufacturer List (AML) and electronic component database.
  • Monitor component availability, obsolescence notices, PCNs/PDNs, and lifecycle risks.
  • Lead alternate component identification, qualification, and cross‑functional approval.
  • Review BOMs for accuracy, manufacturability, supply continuity, and standardization opportunities.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to source new components introduced during design or NPI activity.
  • Obtain supplier quotations for new items, including electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical components.
  • Support supplier selection by evaluating availability, cost, manufacturability, lead time, and supply risk.
  • Assist in make‑vs‑buy assessments and provide sourcing recommendations based on technical and commercial considerations.
  • Ensure new component sourcing aligns with long‑term supply chain strategy and approved vendor base.
  • Act as the bridge between Engineering, Procurement, Supplier Quality, and Manufacturing for component‑related issues.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding component specifications, alternates, and risk assessments.
  • Support production ramp‑ups and troubleshooting for component issues affecting yield or continuity.
  • Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through alternate components, part consolidation, or standardization.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and ethical requirements (RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals, etc.).
  • Maintain proactive mitigation plans for long lead time or constrained components.
  • Maintain and update component records within Oracle ERP, ensuring complete, accurate, and current documentation.
  • Create, update, and manage Item Masters, AML entries, attributes, sourcing rules, and planning parameters.
  • Support ECO/ECN processes by ensuring system data aligns with engineering revisions and production needs.
  • Collaborate with Master Data Management (MDM), Planning, and Procurement to ensure data integrity across ERP modules.
  • Drive data standardization and reduce data errors through continuous improvement of ERP processes and controls.
  • Work with manufacturers to understand technology roadmaps, supply constraints, new product introductions, and alternate options.
  • Partner with supplier quality to resolve component failures or inconsistencies.
