About The Position

Newark Academy is seeking a dynamic Computer Science teacher to join our Math Department for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching computer science and a demonstrated capacity to embrace student-centered, skills-focused, and culturally competent practices. The Math Department faculty is focused on encouraging inquiry and application as well as sharing the love of programming and systems with students. Faculty are encouraged to be involved in the life of the school through clubs, activities, and athletics. Located 35 miles from Manhattan in the town of Livingston, New Jersey, Newark Academy provides students in grades 6-12 with the knowledge and skills to become meaningful contributors to their communities and the wider world. Requirements

  • Experience teaching computer science in middle school, upper school, or higher education settings. Professionals in industry or related fields or with non-traditional paths to education are also encouraged to apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • Topics include but are not limited to: JAVA, System Fundamentals, Computer Organization, Networks, Computational Thinking, Problem Solving, and Programming, Object Oriented Programming
  • Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents, and colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating block schedule; classes do not run at the same time each day

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, student-centered environment and work collegially with peers
  • Prepare lessons to deliver to assigned classes
  • Participate in school-sponsored IB training, if needed
  • Meet school guidelines regarding grading, recordkeeping, and use of the learning management system to post timely information about classes
  • Participate in school-wide activities such as workshops, special events, and professional meetings
  • Engage in the life of Newark Academy
