About The Position

Montgomery College has an immediate opening for a full-time Continuing Education & Extended Learning Director. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00pm. This is a grade 35, non-bargaining, exempt position. This position is located at the Mannakee Building, Rockville Campus. Montgomery College (MC) promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging and inclusiveness. Under general supervision and/or direction, manages and directs the Community Education and Extended Learning Services (CEELS) programs within Workforce Development & Continuing Education. The Director provides academic leadership to program directors and staff responsible for academic program development and implementation in an array of credit noncredit areas such as Youth Programs, Early Childhood, Lifelong Learning, Developmental Education, Test Preparation, and World Languages among others. Duties include but are not limited to: Work with program directors to set annual stretch goals, grow and prune programs appropriately, realign people and programs, set marketing parameters, and develop and support staff appropriately, consistent with the strategic goals for the unit. Work to meet and/or exceed revenue goals that cover costs, overhead, and contribute to the fund balance. Responsible for direct and indirect supervision of CEELS program staff, strengthening skills, and ensuring efficient operation. Successful accomplishment includes team building, ongoing communication, collaborative problem solving, performance evaluation for direct supports and review of others, personal and professional development, team engagement, and program evaluation. Address operational issues and responsibilities within programs. Act as resource when needed to help problem solve with staff issues, staffing, client issues, faculty, scheduling, site issues, programming, funding, program issues, room assignments, etc. Manage budgets, monitor revenue, use cost recovery strategies to ensure that costs are met and additional revenue contribution continues to grow, review agreements where appropriate, approve specific expenditures, consult on contracts and outsourcing. Represent the unit/division on internal and external committees as needed and required. Attend internal and external events to establish and develop relationships that contribute to positive perception of the unit, division, and College and lead to activities designed to enhance respect and revenue. Participate in community activities to establish relationships but also to meet and potentially bring future faculty members or guest presenters, or volunteers, to campus/the unit/the division. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree.
  • Seven years of experience in education, business or related field in program development/management that includes budget and resource management.
  • Three years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in secondary, postsecondary, or adult education settings
  • Training and experience in educational program design, implementation, and evaluation, and alignment with relevant quality/accreditation standards
  • Experience in the use of data to assess program performance, enrollment trends, and program viability
  • Experience serving diverse populations, including youth, older adults, or individuals with disabilities
  • Experience developing programs in collaboration with community organizations, employers, advisory boards, or partner agencies
  • Experience in developing and managing alternative funding sources (e.g. grants, fee-for-service contracts)
  • Experience collaborating with marketing or enrollment teams to support program launches and enrollment growth
  • Experience recruiting, supporting, and evaluating adjunct instructors.
