Position Overview Serve as the Program Manager for Continuous Improvement across the entirety of Marine operations. The role is intended to provide leadership oversight for design, development and deployment of a Lean / Continuous Improvement program that will support the organization in significantly improving operational execution. This role is intended to have broad oversight of Quality and Continuous Improvement topics and will work collaboratively in establishing this program with the various Marine operational leadership functions.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline; and at least 15 years in a leadership capacity
  • 10+ years leading / leveraging LEAN / CI tools across large, complex integrated supply chain organizations
  • Prior experience developing and deploying LEAN / CI at a Program level across organizations
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems, ISO Standard
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting contractual and organizational commitments
  • Excellent communication, verbal, presentation and written skills
  • Willing to travel as needed (up to 75%)
  • Ability to work well in teams with persons from different organizations, job types and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to complete assignments with little supervisory oversite
  • Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Strong background in lean practices, experience in using Value Stream Mapping and implementing lean tools, such as 5S+1, Visual Factory, Standard Work, Quick Changeover and TPM essential.
  • Experience training others in the use of lean tools and concepts required.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills, utilizing a proven structured, disciplined approach (A3, 8D, 5P, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills at all levels from the shop floor to top management, including the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English.
  • Strong team leader, ability to think strategically and execute tactically to deliver results
  • Analytically, data-driven and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to have a holistic overview of complex situations and flexibility to deal effectively with difficult issues when they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the overall Program Manager for Continuous Improvement for all aspects of Marine operations.
  • This leadership role will be tasked with designing and staffing an organization of Quality Engineers, Data Analysts and CI practitioners required to drive sustainable improvements in operational execution.
  • Hire, train and develop staff in a manner that establishes LEAN principles at the core of SubCom Marine operations.
  • Introduce LEAN / Continuous Improvement methodologies and tools that help the operations identify sources of operations variation and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive culture change in the use of data, KPI, goals and LEAN / CI methodologies.
  • Drive change and provide leadership support for change management.
  • Collaborate with functional operations leaders across Marine in developing KPI and goals supported by rigorous improvement plans.
  • Promote a culture that reflects SubCom’s values, encourages outstanding performance and promotes positive work environment, as well as strengthening regional team spirit within and across other functions.
  • Reward productivity as part of an ongoing process to establish SubCom as an employer of choice.
  • Support management within SubCom in implementing and monitoring the Quality Management System.
  • Help to facilitate the development, resolution and implementation of Project-specific Corrective and Preventive Actions
  • Provide support for periodic customer audits conducted within the different functional areas
  • Provide support for ISO 9001 certification including periodic QMS audits.
  • Other project-related quality tasks as assigned by the Director of Quality/CI
  • Collaborate with Functional Team Leaders and their teams to identify opportunities and to lead/assist with improvement initiatives.
