About The Position

Roanoke Cement is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Control Room Operator to oversee plant process operations from a centralized control room environment. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe operations, environmental compliance, product quality, and optimal equipment performance across the facility. The Control Room Operator position offers a training rate of $35.48 per hour , with an increase to a full rate of $37.48 per hour upon successful completion of the training period and qualification . The ideal candidate will bring strong industrial process knowledge, sound decision-making skills under pressure, and a collaborative mindset when working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical, Quality, and Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in cement manufacturing or a related industrial environment.
  • Ability to work shift work, including callouts, scheduled, and unscheduled overtime as required.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and control software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to distinguish a full range of colors (required for monitoring systems and indicators).
  • Willingness to travel for external training as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of chemistry is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control all plant process systems and auxiliary equipment from the central control room to maintain safety and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, electrical, and quality departments to optimize equipment utilization.
  • Strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and environmental regulations.
  • Operate and navigate control software and systems including Microsoft Office Products, ECS, PXP, Pavilion, Malvern, and VIM.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the capacity and production rates of major equipment.
  • Accurately record equipment downtime, reasons for shutdown, quality data, and other relevant information in a logbook.
  • Ensure compliance with product quality standards and environmental regulations.
  • Work closely with Process Engineers and Supervisors to resolve any safety, environmental, quality, or production issues.
  • Perform additional duties as required when not stationed in the control room.
