Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Michigan Pharmacy Technician license OR eligibility for the Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy laws and regulations governing controlled substances, including DEA regulations
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to comply with all company policies, procedures, patient protocols, and government regulations
  • Ability to complete annual online education requirements by the designated completion date
  • Honest and trustworthy spirit with strong integrity
  • Strong English communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of pharmacy software and general office equipment
  • Strong mathematical skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals (basic algebraic understanding preferred)
  • Attention to detail and ability to work thoroughly and accurately

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate counts of controlled substances, including receiving, storing, and dispensing medications in accordance with established protocols.
  • Prepare and dispense controlled substances under pharmacist supervision, ensuring prescription accuracy and regulatory adherence.
  • Maintain detailed records of all controlled substance transactions, including dispensing logs, inventory adjustments, and required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing the handling and storage of controlled substances, including DEA requirements.
  • Safeguard controlled substances in secure, designated areas and implement measures to prevent diversion or theft.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including routine audits, to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, pharmacy staff, and healthcare providers to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Report any suspected diversion, discrepancies, losses, or theft promptly and follow established reporting procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow and compliance processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations.
