About The Position

Our client, a manufacturing company in Austin, TX, seeks a seasoned Controller / Finance Director to lead finance, accounting, and controlling functions. Reporting directly to the CEO/CFO, this role manages the finance and accounting teams, ensures accurate financial reporting, robust cost controls, and inventory management in a production environment, while providing strategic insights to support operational efficiency and growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA, CPA, or CMA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with 5+ years in senior leadership (e.g., Controller/Finance Director) in manufacturing or production settings.
  • Strong expertise in manufacturing finance: cost accounting, standard costing, inventory management, variance analysis, and production-related KPIs.
  • Proven leadership in fast-paced operational environments with focus on cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle with manufacturing modules) and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Excellent analytical, strategic, communication, and team leadership skills.
  • Fluency in English; flexibility for business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, reporting, cash flow, audits, and compliance (US GAAP, tax regulations).
  • Lead cost accounting and controlling, including standard costing, variance analysis (standard vs. actual, budget vs. actual), inventory valuation, overhead allocation, and KPI monitoring (e.g., unit costs, inventory turns, production variances, profitability).
  • Prepare timely monthly/quarterly financial statements, management reports, rolling forecasts, and scenario analyses; identify and address performance gaps.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, financial data accuracy, risk management for manufacturing operations, and alignment with reporting standards.
  • Manage budgets, monitor financial/operational performance, and deliver actionable insights to executive leadership.
  • Partner with manufacturing, operations, supply chain, and engineering teams to integrate cost tracking, support lean initiatives, and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Develop executive dashboards on financials, manufacturing KPIs, cost trends, and inventory health.
