Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential
  • 3+ years of experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior accounting role in a manufacturing, industrial, recycling, or similar operational environment
  • Strong technical aptitude and knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience managing month-end close, financial statements, and budgeting processes
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or financial software (QuickBooks or similar ERP platforms)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing operational financial metrics, cost analysis models, and management reporting tools
  • Ability to translate financial data into operational insights for leadership and frontline workers.
  • Experience working with third party advisors including external accountants, tax advisors, consultants and lenders
  • Experience leading or mentoring accounting staff
  • Experience working in a privately owned or family-owned business
  • Familiarity with ERP, POS, or recycling management systems
  • Experience supporting executive leadership with financial planning and strategic decision-making
  • Exposure to compliance areas such as insurance, benefits administration, or regulatory reporting
  • Strong communication skills working with non-financial leaders

Responsibilities

  • Own the integrity of the company’s financial and tax records, accounting systems, and reporting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes while maintaining strong internal controls and GAAP-aligned accounting procedures.
  • Oversee and directly contribute to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activity, ensuring transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis tools that support planning, cash management, and strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with operational leaders to understand cost drivers and develop departmental metrics such as cost per ton, margins, equipment performance, and production efficiency.
  • Develop a strong understanding of recycling operations to connect financial insights with real-world performance.
  • Oversee administrative functions related to finance and human resources, including insurance, benefits administration, and financial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements and contractual obligations including finance, legal, and environmental health and safety.
  • Maintain and improve financial systems and tools including QuickBooks and other operational software platforms.
  • Collaborate with external partners including auditors, insurance providers, and financial institutions.
  • Lead and mentor accounting and administrative team members while improving departmental processes and documentation.
