About The Position

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented individual to join our organization! You will have the opportunity work with the acknowledged leader in the field of liquid food packaging and consumer goods, Krones, Inc., via their subsidiary provider for these services, Process and Data Automation. We are looking for a motivated professional to work in these market segments which would include any manufacturers who embrace software in a manufacturing setting. Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, Project Managers, and Senior Engineers, the Controls Engineer Level 2 serves as a member of a cross-functional project team. As a member of a cross-functional project team, the role has responsibility to independently execute tasks and project initiatives. Process and Data Automation is a full-service, CSIA Certified industrial control systems integration firm. Our Automation Engineering group specializes in physical automation system design, programming, project management, and commissioning. We also feature a dedicated Digitalization Group (DSG) that connects automated equipment and systems to the business system environment including protected recipe systems, data collection and reporting, and data historian implementation. Our DSG can provide the systems you need to set your systems up for proper operation and then provide the tools you need to make sure you execute as planned. Responsibilities: The Controls Engineer II is responsible for the engineering, design, integration, programming, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), control instrumentation/components, and Industrial Networks for systems to support productivity and/or quality improvements for our clients. Additional responsibilities include training Level 1 Controls Engineers and advising PMs/others on technical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • System Design
  • Create IO lists
  • Specify control system hardware based on an IO list
  • Research commercially available control system hardware and software
  • Develop bill of materials for specified hardware
  • Advise design team to define system architecture and drawing requirements
  • Assist project team with control system design documentation:
  • Automation Detailed Functional Specification (ADFS)
  • Flow Diagrams
  • System Development
  • Equipment Configuration
  • Configure hardware aspects of PLCs/HMIs/Networking equipment
  • Variable Frequency Drives
  • Field instrumentation
  • Programming:
  • PLC
  • Set up and configure PLC programs
  • Set up and configure system IO and devices
  • IO mapping and scaling
  • Create and implement templatized and custom code using company standards and best practices
  • HMI/SCADA
  • Set up and configure applications
  • Build out dashboard and process detail screens with appropriate navigation
  • Create and implement graphical templates using company standards and best practices
  • System Testing
  • Develop simulation logic
  • Design and execute functional tests of the control system.
  • Quality Control and Assurance:
  • Review system development to ensure quality adherence
  • Developing quality check requirements to validate quality

  • Install control systems including:
  • Hardware (PLC’s, HMI’s, Networking equipment, VFD’s, and field instrumentation)

  • Markup electrical drawings sets to capture control system changes
  • Complete daily onsite reports to document commissioning progress, issues encountered, and updated assets.

  • Create and continuously improve standard project documentation (IO lists, RAILs, FATs/SATs, SOWs, FDS, etc.).
  • Create and continuously improve non-standard project documentation under the direction of designated team member(s).
  • Support sales team with system design and engineering labor estimates.
  • Identify and report project and safety related risks.
