Ameresco is seeking a qualified Controls Technician to support operation and maintenance activities at assigned facilities in the DC Area. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting building automation and control systems while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building and energy systems.

Requirements

  • Trade school or vocational high school diploma (or equivalent technical training).
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience working with building automation or DDC systems.
  • Ability to review and handle confidential U.S. security information.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing, issued by state of residence.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of building automation protocols such as BACnet, LonWorks, and Modbus.
  • Exposure to or experience with SCADA systems.
  • Experience with one or more control platforms such as Distech, Tridium/Niagara, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Automated Logic.
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts, servers, and integrating third-party devices or software.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems used in commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret control drawings, plans, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong customer service mindset with attention to quality and detail.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a controls and energy services environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service, troubleshooting, and basic programming support of Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, both on-site and with remote/phone support as needed.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, repairs, and component replacements on DDC systems, VFDs, and related electrical control systems.
  • Support day-to-day operation and communication of building automation systems and connected equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining control system networks and ensuring reliable device communication.
  • Provide basic training and support to site operators on local control system operation.
  • Interface professionally with facility staff, owners, and owner’s representatives.
  • Follow all company safety policies, industry standards, and applicable federal, state, and local codes.
  • Accurately document work performed and report system issues or recommendations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
