About The Position

The Convenience Site Attendant is responsible for the safe, efficient, and orderly operation of assigned waste convenience sites. This role assists customers with proper disposal of household waste and recyclable materials, maintains site cleanliness, enforces site rules, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The position is primarily outdoors and requires strong customer service skills and physical activity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to follow safety rules, instructions, and site procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in waste management, recycling, landfill, or convenience center operations
  • Experience operating compactors or light equipment
  • Basic understanding of recyclable and prohibited materials

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the convenience site according to posted schedules and secure gates, containers, and equipment
  • Greet customers and direct them to the proper containers for disposal of household waste, recyclables, yard waste, and bulky items
  • Inspect incoming materials to prevent disposal of prohibited or hazardous items and redirect customers as needed
  • Provide courteous assistance to customers unloading materials when appropriate
  • Enforce site rules, safety procedures, and Capital Waste Services policies
  • Monitor traffic flow and unloading areas to ensure safety of customers and employees
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Report safety hazards, incidents, or equipment issues to supervision immediately
  • Maintain cleanliness of the site, including picking up litter, sweeping, and organizing disposal areas
  • Monitor container levels and notify appropriate personnel when dumpsters or roll off containers are full
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and report major repair needs
  • Assist with operating and monitoring compactors or other site equipment as trained
  • Maintain simple daily logs or reports related to site activity, incidents, or maintenance needs
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and operations staff regarding site conditions
  • Assist with additional duties or assignments as directed
