About The Position

The Converter Operator – Class I plays a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality asphalt production. Reporting to the Asphalt Production Leader and Operations Leader, this position is responsible for maintaining safety standards, environmental compliance, product quality, and cost efficiency. The Converter Operator fosters a collaborative work environment, coaches team members, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to meet customer requirements and maximize plant performance.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Allen Bradley panel views and SAP for production order processing.
  • Strong general computer skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Operations knowledge in areas such as boilers, incinerators, preheaters, hot oil systems, tank burners, truck/railcar/barge loading and unloading, acid systems, and computer-controlled operations.
  • Ability to work up to 8 hours in extreme hot/cold conditions.
  • Walk/stand on concrete floors for extended periods.
  • Routinely climb stairs and ladders.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs without assistance.
  • Use required PPE (steel-toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection, hard hat, gloves, etc.).
  • Exposure to noise levels may be uncomfortable.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal ownership for safety and hold team members accountable to the same high standards.
  • Immediately report and address any accidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards.
  • Oversee team safety, production, product quality, and material/labor efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot process issues in collaboration with operators and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and perform administrative tasks including data entry and production documentation.
  • Coordinate carriers for raw material deliveries and finished product pickups.
  • Load and unload trucks following proper procedures; perform tank gauging as required.
  • Partner with Operations Leader to implement process improvements and achieve site goals.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge of production operations, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
