About The Position

At Hood Container Corporation, we’re searching for a 2nd Shift Converting Supervisor at our Winston Salem, NC facility. This role is responsible for managing 2nd shift employees (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM) to meet manufacturing and production schedules, providing overall direction to production floor employees, including production, scheduling, performance management, training and other related areas, striving to improve overall operational efficiencies during the designated shift. This role is responsible for coordinating production operations and maintaining effective quality procedures and safety regulations for the facility. The ideal candidates must be a self-driven individual with a passion for excellence in Safety, People Development, Manufacturing, and Customer Focus.  The plant runs Monday-Friday with weekend work as needed during peak seasons or other times as needed.  Must provide leadership on the operating floor and striving for compliance in safety, health, environmental, and quality. Also responsible for coaching, training, and developing operations personnel in safety, quality, production, problem solving, and technical and interpersonal communication skills; addressing key issues and concerns; and interacting with employees from other departments to ensure quality and on-time production. Drive safety excellence through promoting employee involvement, ownership and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement the appropriate mitigating strategies; investigate incidents and participate in resolution of causes Ensure best practices are being followed for minimization of waste at machine centers. Track continuous improvement opportunities where performance issues are apparent and provide leadership/action plans for gap closure. Strictly adhere to plant safety and housekeeping efforts. Identify repairs needed at machine centers and create work requests for completion; follow up as required. Plan, assign and direct work for all hourly production employees; appraise performance and provide feedback as needed; assist in resolving complaints; hold employees accountable as needed; communicate issues and results on a daily basis. Must possess problem solving/root cause analysis skills; leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams to exceed expectation; communication, planning and organization skills; sense of urgency and accountability; customer focus; ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. with equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years in a leadership role within the manufacturing industry.
  • Must be able to work high temperature & humidity conditions while wearing proper PPE including, but not limited to, hearing protection, steel toe shoes and safety glasses.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Corrugated industry experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English, Spanish) Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops short and long-term courses of action that support the organization's overall vision and mission; balances business, technical, and operational issues when determining a strategy; identifies problems with current strategies and suggests ways to resolve them
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the shift with constant emphasis on safety, quality, waste, delivery and cost
  • Motivate employees to keep operations running smoothly and safely.
  • Maintain agility, flexibility, and a willingness to modify one’s approach to achieve desired results; responds quickly to changing demands, processes, and updated information
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and enforce control procedures, recommending improvements to the Plant Manager, as appropriate
  • Maintain quality, efficiencies, and production levels set by management. Communicate these standards to your staff.
  • Report quality concerns to Plant Superintendent. Assist in determining quality guidelines.
  • Establish high morale within your department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain inventories of sheets, inks, and other converting supplies.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Manager on any repairs or preventive maintenance done in the department.
  • Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect the performance of your department.
  • Enforce the corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees.
  • Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety program, and good housekeeping.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
