KSB has nearly 180 years of service whose mission is to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, birth to 21. KSB prides itself on helping all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired to develop their talents, their skills and attitudes to become confident, competent and independent adults. Currently KSB has a vacant Cook I position in the KSB Food Services Section. As a Cook you will provide general cooking duties for the students at Kentucky School for the Blind.

Requirements

  • One year of cooking experience in an institutional or large scale commercial setting.
  • Vocational training in food service will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food from assigned menus, including baking, frying, broiling, sautéing, steaming and roasting of meats, fish or fowl.
  • Store, thaw, handle, prepare, refrigerate and heat foods in accordance with state and local health department regulations.
  • Maintains proper temperature of food cooked. Inspect all foods for insect and bacteria contamination.
  • Perform kitchen sanitation. Wash pots and pans. Mop, sweep and scrub floors. Clean/sanitize worktable, sinks, ovens, cutting boards, etc.
  • Assist in serving food to students/staff. Prepare sack lunches for school trips. Assist in preparation and transporting food.
  • Prepare specialty meals as needed. Assist in the preparation of food, setups and service for banquets, receptions, meetings and other special activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
