About The Position

This position is under the guidance of the precinct Sergeant, and serves as Corporal, responsible for supervising the officers assigned to the precinct/feeder pattern and/or unit. This position will ensure the positions assigned under its leadership maintains a state of readiness in order to meet the day to day operational responsibilities of each position assigned to the division. The corporal of the precinct/feeder pattern or unit is responsible for managing law enforcement related matters within the boundary of the School District utilizing the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, District’s Board Policy, Management Guidelines, Departmental Rules and Regulations and other directive from the Chief of Police. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certification
  • At least 3 years of law enforcement experience prior to the date of the posting
  • Must not have a sustained complaint for untruthfulness or association with person of questionable character
  • Proficient in Texas Penal Code, Education Code, juvenile laws and processing procedures
  • Proficient in Spring ISD Student and Staff Code of Conduct
  • Proficient with Spring ISD Police Department Policies, Procedures, and forms.
  • Ability to pass a written exam with a minimum score of 70% required.
  • Ability to pass a physical agility, psychological, and drug test.
  • Ability to work well with juveniles and adults.
  • Ability to work any shift as needed (to include weekends and holidays).
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a first-line supervisor in the absence or at the direction of the sergeant.
  • Respond to incidents requiring law enforcement attention both on and around school grounds.
  • The position will also take appropriate action during any crisis event and/or criminal investigations.
  • Complete any/all required reports to document incidents for follow-up investigations, informative reports and for prosecution.
  • In coordination with the Sergeant, monitor officers’ daily work performance.
  • Review approve officers’ daily logs and/or incident and offense reports.
  • Provide training and support to officers assigned to their area of responsibility as needed.
  • Attend community meetings to learn and address community concerns as designated.
  • Patrol assigned areas on a regular basis and take appropriate action when required.
  • Investigate law enforcement matters and/or provide officers with supervisory direction in all law enforcement matters.
  • Ensure officers protect and preserve crime scene evidence.
  • Assist campus and other School District member to ensure all safety and security practices are adhered in according to policy and the Safety & Security Charter.
  • Attend any/all assigned courts of law to act as a witness to ensure justice is served.
  • Enforce the local, state, and federal laws.
  • Asist other police agencies in law enforcement matters involving Spring ISD property, students, or personnel as directed.
  • This position will perform other job duties as assigned.
  • When off-duty, the corporal will maintain communications with the precinct/feeder pattern or unit sergeant and be available by radio or telephone/cellular phone at all times unless otherwise noted prior to going off-duty.
  • This position serves in an on-call rotation for Critical Incident Command situations.
  • This position also serves as a representative for the Police Department with their geographic area of assignment and will be available for public discussions of law enforcement, public safety, community-oriented problem solving and initial complaints against officers and/or department action(s).
  • This position may be assigned or reassigned as necessary.
