About The Position

The Corporate Accounting Manager oversees the daily corporate accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, managing the month-end close process, and supporting financial reporting and compliance activities while serving as the primary backup for payroll operations. This role serves as a key liaison between divisional groups, accounting staff, and senior leadership, providing hands-on leadership and driving process improvements to ensure efficient and effective financial operations. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented self-starter, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced, construction-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
  • 6+ years of progressive construction accounting experience, including payroll accounting exposure
  • Hands-on experience with Sage CRE 300 and Office Connector for general ledger, reporting, and financial close
  • Experience using ADP payroll systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now, including payroll review and reporting
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting, taxes, and labor law compliance
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • Experience using SQL to query, extract, validate, and analyze financial and operational data
  • Experience working with ERP systems and large data sets in multi-entity environments
  • Ability to design, maintain, and improve financial reports and dashboards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to streamline reporting and improve data accuracy through automation

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting standards
  • Support the implementation of new accounting standards and policies
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger reconciliations
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies; prepare and approve journal entries
  • Develop, refine, and maintain accounting processes and internal controls
  • Prepare and review monthly work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of ledgers, journals, and project-specific financial records
  • Supervise Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions
  • Partner with the CFO and Corporate Controller on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing to ensure business continuity
  • Review payroll registers, tax filings, and benefit deductions for accuracy and compliance
  • Support payroll tax filings, amendments, and year-end processes (W-2s, 1099s)
  • Partner with Payroll Supervising Senior and HR to ensure accurate employee data, earnings, deductions, and compliance
  • Assist with payroll system upgrades, testing, and integrations with accounting systems
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies when acting as backup
  • Participate in financial statement audits and tax preparation with external CPA firms
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Assist with preparation of payroll tax, sales and use tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings
  • Support administration of 401(k) and ESOP plans
  • Prepare and maintain bank covenant calculations and related documentation
  • Hire, train, develop, and evaluate accounting staff
  • Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to support employee growth and accountability
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members
  • Stay current on accounting and construction industry trends through continuing education
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Collaborate effectively with operations, senior leadership, and external stakeholders
  • Represent the accounting department professionally with subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with departmental goals
  • Lead efforts to enhance financial processes and implement new systems
  • Ensure procedures remain compliant with regulatory and industry standards
  • Support due diligence and integration activities related to potential acquisitions
  • Lead or participate in special projects as assigned
