About The Position

Position will be responsible for all training of certified and non-certified staff to ensure their understanding and compliance with policies and procedures. This position ensures that specialized training is coordinated, and policy requirements are met. Serves as an instructor for general and specialized training and will maintain instructor certifications as defined by policies and the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. This position schedules instructors for classes to ensure training requirements are met. This position will be prepared to instruct classes in the absence of scheduled instructors. This position ensures OSDT records are keyed into the system and will maintain training records as required policies. Position is familiar with external training requirements as outlined in department policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in a criminal justice or training-related field; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in a criminal justice or training-related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • May require General Instructor Certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Train of certified and non-certified staff to ensure compliance with policy.
  • Ensure specialized training is coordinated and policy/requirements are met.
  • Conduct new hire orientation to ensure newly hired staff are oriented to policies and procedures.
  • Schedule instructors for classes to ensure training requirements are met.
  • Schedule staff to attend Basic Correctional Officer Training, Annual In-Service Training and any other required training that is necessary.
  • Ensure OSDT records are keyed into the LMS system and maintain training records as required by policy.
  • Work with staff and other training professionals within Adult Correction and the community college system.
  • Stay abreast of all policy changes affecting training and ensuring all lesson plans are current and approved.
  • Coordinate and monitor the Correctional Field Training Officer (CFTO) program and prepare required reports.
