About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates, such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is assigned to Greene Correctional Institution in Maury, NC. Employees in this class are assigned a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and concerns, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees will also assist in major dynamic programs for the rehabilitation of inmates such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, recreation as well as transition planning and coordinating. Case Managers plan and coordinate inmate’s transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release in the community

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
