GRADE CORR 0005 Main Purpose of Job Leads Correctional Supply Officers in maintaining stocks of supplies and materials required for operation of a State Correctional Institution; including the ordering, receiving, storing, auditing and accounting for inventory items as well as training and supervising employees and incarcerated individuals in the performance of such activities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
  • Two years of experience involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmate workers in storekeeping or warehousing operations at a correctional facility.
  • The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8 209, Annotated Code of Maryland.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.
  • This recruitment is limited to current DPSCS employees only.
  • Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for institutional support staff during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland). Selection standards for institutional support staff training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status Must be at least 21 years of age Oral interview A completed background investigation Physical examination.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs

  • Two years of experience working in a warehouse setting
  • Two years of experience in inventory and ordering supplies/equipment

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining price quotes from vendors and preparing orders for supplies and materials
  • Receiving incoming materials, inspecting for quality and quantity of items received; relative to purchase orders or product specifications
  • Properly storing inventory items in accordance with appropriate security precautions and damage protection measures
  • Issuing supplies and materials to authorized persons
  • Maintaining records reflecting requisitions, orders, goods received and issued
  • Conducting periodic counts of inventory items, reconciling actual counts to inventory records
  • Contacting vendors to obtain bids, resolve questions or coordinate orders and deliveries
  • Providing guidance, instruction and training to lower level Correctional Supply Officers
  • Coordinate and resolve finance issues with Business Office personnel
  • Review completed inmate work tasks for quality and accuracy
