Responsible for the operation of the various control centers to maintain internal and perimeter security for the Thurston County Corrections Facility/Accountability and Restitution Center. Under limited supervision, coordinates the traffic flow in the jail and provides visual and audio support to staff. Performs a variety of technical and administrative duties to support operations in all facilities under the Corrections Bureau of the Sheriff's Office. The Corrections Technician maintains internal and perimeter security in the Thurston County Jail/Accountability and Restitution Center through access and egress control, internal and external video monitoring, and the monitoring of alarm systems. Corrections Technicians primarily perform central control functions, including remote operation of internal doors and locks; but may also perform visitor screening and reception duties to include controlling exterior access points and security screening points. Work occurs inside a 24-hour, seven days per week secure correctional facility. Shift work is required and includes working day, swing and graveyard shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as required. Duties may include interaction with inmates and/or visitors who may be hostile or angry. Incumbents primarily work in a control room environment where there are various tones, beeps, alarms, voices, and other sounds present simultaneously and constantly. Incumbents may also at times work in a reception environment. Work involves sitting or standing for long periods and using rapid motor skills to move from one control to another.
