About the position

The Cook position at Cosentino's is designed to produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in terms of freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. The Cook will assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure that the Deli team meets the high standards of product and service that Cosentino's customers expect. This position formally reports to the Deli Manager and is classified as non-exempt.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the department manager to develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items.
  • Know and practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
  • Ensure all foods are prepared in strict accordance with safety, health, and sanitation guidelines, as well as relevant government regulations.
  • Enforce strict quality control measures of all deli products.
  • Provide direct supervision of the kitchen team in an operationally effective and respectful manner.
  • Promote a positive team atmosphere that includes cooperation, high morale, and recognition for a job well done.
  • Train, direct, and manage part-time cooks.
  • Utilize clear communication skills to keep team members informed of required resources.
  • Practice effective inventory management by counting and verifying merchandise against invoices.
  • Know and practice rotation procedures to ensure product dates are monitored.
  • Be familiar with department items to accurately answer customer questions.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Promote department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
  • Implement the Cosentino's Customer Service Standards.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely.
  • Ensure all Deli Programs are followed and maintained.
  • Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.

Requirements

  • A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.
  • Minimum of one year of previous cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a deli or food service production facility.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
