The vision of the BI is to transform the lives of Bronx and other New York City area youth by improving their educational outcomes. Our efforts are focused on closing the achievement gap by increasing high school graduation, college readiness, acceptance, and retention in schools that maximize each student’s potential. It provides students enrolled in Bronx Schools with academic support, early awareness and readiness for college stud. The Institute works collaboratively with the Bronx schools, community-based organizations, colleges, and other service providers in the planning, promotion, and delivery of services to accelerate academic achievement, improve student performance and ensure successful high school graduation and admission to college. The Counselor works under the direction and supervision of the GEAR UP Institutional Liaison & Coordinator (PI BCC) and will have primary responsibilities for supporting the programs at The Bronx Institute and at schools A counselor delivers structured workshops for parents of students participating in the program, equipping them with practical tools and strategies to effectively guide and support their children in career exploration and decision-making. Through interactive sessions, the facilitator provides insight into current career pathways, labor market trends, skills development, and educational options. The workshops also offer guidance on goal setting, motivation, and long-term planning, enabling parents to take an active and confident role in directing their children toward successful and fulfilling career paths. S/he will be responsible for understanding and assuring compliance with RF CUNY federal, city and state grants guidelines and will be responsible for: Other Duties Coordinate workshop schedules and communicate effectively with the Institutional Liaison & Coordinator (PI BCC). Develop and update workshop materials to reflect current career trends and educational pathways. Track parent participation and collect feedback to measure program impact. Prepare reports summarizing workshop outcomes and parent engagement metrics. Other duties as assigned. Core Competencies Strong facilitation and group presentation skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in parent engagement, coaching, career counseling, workforce development, or educational programming.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or training sessions for adult audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual presentation platforms.
  • Strong facilitation and group presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of career development principles and academic pathways.
  • Ability to engage and build trust with diverse families and communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to different family dynamics.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
