About The Position

Courier Technician (Part-Time) Galveston County Health District is seeking a reliable Courier Technician to support operations across District facilities and community partners. This position is responsible for the safe and timely transport of mail, supplies, packages, and operational materials, including scheduled deliveries and water delivery/installation. The role supports inter-office logistics, ensures dependable route coverage, and does not involve handling cash or financial transactions. Why Join Us? What You’ll Do: Transport mail, supplies, packages, and other items daily between District facilities and external locations, including the post office Sort items according to delivery routes and drive routes efficiently to minimize downtime Load and unload vehicles safely, including handling items weighing up to 50 lbs. Ensure District vehicles are maintained (cleanliness, low tires, windshield wipers, etc.) and report issues promptly Distribute mail and supplies to appropriate Health District departments and locations Assist with inventory functions, including stocking, issuing supplies, and data entry as backup for the Receiving/Inventory Specialist Assist the Facility Coordinator as time permits Coordinate with other departments and community partners as needed Represent the division at public meetings or hearings when required Respond to public health emergencies and assist during evenings or weekends as needed Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in purchasing and/or operating motor vehicles on a delivery or commercial basis preferred
  • Excellent driving record and ability to operate GCHD vehicles
  • Must possess valid Texas driver’s license
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Basic computer skills (email, simple data entry)
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Must comply with GCHD Immunization Policy and ICS training requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
  • Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) check required
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Galveston County area preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Willingness to adjust schedule occasionally based on operational needs
