About The Position

The Brookdale Criminal Division of Hennepin County District Court is seeking customer service focused, team-oriented Court Operations Associates to contribute to our mission of providing justice to the public. The Brookdale team fosters an inclusive, dynamic work environment and promotes equity for all court staff and court customers. Court Operations Associates work individually and in teams to support a wide variety of court customers and justice partners, including community members, judges, law enforcement officials, and attorneys. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and technological skills to match our high-performance environment. The ability to practice independent judgment along with utilizing resources and team support is also crucial to success. Court Operations Associates rotate assignments daily, so each day brings new experiences and opportunities! The Brookdale Courthouse handles solely misdemeanor criminal and traffic cases for the communities of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Corcoran, Crystal, Dayton, Golden Valley, Greenfield, Hanover, Maple Grove, New Hope, Osseo, Robbinsdale, Rockford, Rogers, and St. Anthony.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and one (1) year of relevant job experience OR equivalent amount of post-high school education and experience totaling one year
  • Examples of relevant job experience: customer service, administrative work, office, and clerical work
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, work well under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, and adapt to change
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other job-related software
  • Ability to process financial transactions accurately with an eye for detail
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills including patience, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to de-escalate difficult customer interactions
  • Dedication to an inclusive, multicultural environment that values collaborating and learning from one another as a team

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of customer service and/or administrative experience
  • Experience in a legal setting such as a courtroom clerk or paralegal
  • Experience with electronic document applications, workflow queues, and web-based video audio platforms
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to continuously learn and retain new material, concepts, and ongoing procedural changes
  • Well-organized and analytical

Responsibilities

  • Assist and communicate with judicial partners and court customers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner to ensure the customer's needs are effectively met in-person, over the phone, or through electronic means
  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments and case processing are completed efficiently and accurately
  • Collaborate with Judicial Officers, Court Reporters, Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys, Probation Officers, and Law Enforcement
  • Review and process court filings for timeliness, statutory compliance, and proper document security as required by local and court-wide policies and procedures
  • Check in court customers for court
  • Process payments (cash, credit card, and check) for fines, bail, etc.
  • Schedule Hearing Officer appointments for citations
  • Manage remote hearings held via Zoom. This includes tasks such as admitting court customers to the meeting, monitoring the chat, managing breakout rooms, and directing the order of cases called
  • Perform high-level case processing and data entry, including scheduling hearings
  • Prepare documents for court customers
  • Assist court customers with same-day applications for a public defender
  • Troubleshoot technology issues with public kiosks with court customers when needed
  • Accurately update calendars and records for high-volume, fast-paced courtrooms
  • Manage courtroom audio technology
  • Administer Oaths and swear in court customers
