About The Position

This position serves as the Crisis Clinician of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for serving adults in acute crisis with mental health and substance use disorders. The primary function is to provide an advanced level of mental health services and conduct clinical assessments.

Requirements

• Must have a Master’s Degree and be licensed in Kansas as a Qualified Mental Health Professional, with preference given to clinical licensure.
• Experience and rapport development skills with people experiencing acute crises.
• Relevant experience in mental health emergency services.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including both verbal and written.
• Ability to establish effective on-going working relationships with both staff and various community agencies.
• Ability to facilitate planning meetings with individuals from multiple systems.
• Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
• Complies with all relevant Center policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as deemed appropriate by immediate supervisor or designate.
• Provide and maintain dependable transportation and auto insurance.
• Must pass background screen and meet all relevant licensing, credentialing, etc. requirements.
• Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Works quickly to develop rapport and assess needs for adults in acute states of psychiatric and substance abuse crises.
• Responds rapidly to conduct mental health status assessments, suicide risk assessments, hospital screens, and triage for RSI.
• Provides crisis interventions, assessments, and resource planning to adults in acute crisis.
• Completes clinical assessments to determine the necessity of higher levels of care using the Kansas screening process.
• Facilitates admissions to higher levels of care, when deemed necessary.
• Facilitates petitioning process and/or serves as the petitioner and testifies in court, when necessary, for involuntary commitments to the State Mental Health Hospital.
• Coordinates / interacts closely with the Emergency & Stabilization Services team to assure continuity of care between Wyandot Center Crisis, RSI, and higher levels of care when appropriate.
• Serves as primary in the development of plans to prevent state hospitalizations, jail bookings.
• Completes crisis assessment in triage for admission to RSI.
• Participates in the completion of discharge plans for individuals served at RSI and multidisciplinary team planning for successful transition to community based services.
• Works with team members, community partners, and service organizations to closely collaborate care and other community services or resources.
• Monitors program data and develops reports to ensure appropriate accountability.
• Acts as a boundary spanner for RSI, mental health services, substance use services, law enforcement and other community agencies.
• Completes timely and accurate documentation of services in the medical record.
• Coordinates and supports with 24/7 crisis line and 988 staff as needed.
• Confers with various Center staff to ensure optimum continuity of care to the consumer.
• Models and inspires flexibility and creativity in the delivery of clinical services.
• Acts as a crisis clinician on site and as needed in the community.
• Provide leadership to team with respect to staff effectiveness, client’s safety, ensuring compliance with State licensing regulations and any contractual standards, cultivating a positive team environment and oversee the daily operations of the facility.
• Other duties as defined by supervisor.
