Crisis Peer Mentor – Affinity Place To be considered for employment, candidates must be a past or present consumer of mental health and/or chemical addiction services who can relate to others who are currently using those services (peer). Candidates must be able to share personal experience and encourage wellness and recovery. Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider candidates who do not meet this qualification. Provides peer support, information, and advocacy to individuals in crisis, within a residential living environment, in order to assist them in regaining control over their own lives and recovery process, and re-integrating them into the community. Assists guests in articulating goals for recovery. Assists guests in determining barriers to community integration. Provides appropriate interventions based on guests’ goals. Observes progress guests make toward meeting objectives. Effectively engages and communicates with other program staff to integrate guest services. Maintains safety of guests and facility through regular monitoring of environment; identifies and addresses problems as needed per unit procedure. Provides immediate response to crises and emergencies in accordance with East House policies and procedures. Identifies and communicates concerns regarding guest statements or behaviors to appropriate program staff. Responds appropriately to needs of residents that occur during on-duty shifts. Responds to warm line phone calls for persons in mental health crisis. Conducts check in and check out activities that facilitate timely access to service. Facilitates groups and activities. Collaborates with community agencies to identify resources. Maintains resources within the facility. Provides outreach to guests and spends time with them. Assists guests in obtaining community supports that tie in to their recovery goals. Provides role modeling to guests regarding their behavior and interactions with others. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Assists guests in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy. Maintains documentation to set standards. This East House program is licensed by the NYS Office of Mental Health.

Requirements

  • To be considered for employment, candidates must be a past or present consumer of mental health and/or chemical addiction services who can relate to others who are currently using those services (peer).
  • Candidates must be able to share personal experience and encourage wellness and recovery.
  • A high school diploma and previous work experience in a peer role
  • All employees are required to have a valid NYS motor vehicle license, safe driving record, and an insured personal vehicle for use at work.

Nice To Haves

  • Peer Certification preferred (provisional and/or permanent). If not currently certified, employee will obtain certification (provisional and/or permanent) within 18 months of hire.
