About the position

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, General Ledger, the Manager, Accounting oversees the accounting processes required to maintain accurate financial records for the Tribe and tribal owned entities, in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as they apply to governmental accounting. This position is responsible for managing the accounting team to address tight deadlines and ensures the completion of a multitude of accounting activities across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with month-end close and meet the reporting deadlines.
  • Ensures preparation of financial statements and manages reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Prepares, reviews, and/or ensures completion of recurring activities including month-end/year-end closings, reconciliations, financial reporting, sales/use tax reporting, etc.
  • Oversees day-to-day activities, including journal entries, batch approvals, reconciliations, and account analysis.
  • Assists with all external reporting, including audits and other special reports.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements procedures to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the department.
  • Prepares ad-hoc analysis for the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and senior management.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding financial results and special requests for Senior Leadership and Management.
  • Prepares memos, analyses, policies, and procedures as requested by the Senior Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
  • Advanced proficiency with computerized financial systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
  • Experience in the month-end close, excellent attention to detail as well as strong analytical and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately required.
  • Experience with accounting software and a comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Lawson experience or similar financial software is preferred.
  • Experience working in the following areas: hospitality, construction, and/or tribal government is preferred.
