A Crossing Guard ensures that children cross the street safely on their way to and from school. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work part-time and variable hours of work on school days only. Work is performed outdoors where there is regular exposure to traffic hazards and inclement weather. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Ability to read written instructions.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate orally.
  • Ability to keep simple records.
  • Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
  • All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
